Celebrating our 3rd Birthday by Bringing Pocket to More People and Places

Three years ago this week, we became Pocket. This evolution marked the beginning of a new chapter for us, one that better symbolized our commitment to helping you catch and consume the most interesting and important content flowing through your day.

Which is why, on our third birthday, we’re thrilled to make two announcements. First, we’ve raised a new round of investment, enabling us to grow our team (we’re hiring!) and deliver an even better experience for you. And secondly, we’ve completely redesigned Pocket for Web to be responsive, so everyone can now access the same top-notch Pocket experience on any web-friendly device, without needing to download and install the app.

A Warm Welcome to an Amazing Group of New Partners

As part of this latest investment, we couldn’t be happier to welcome Dayna Grayson of New Enterprise Associates (NEA), who will be joining our board of directors. Also participating in this financing are new investors Sound Ventures (Ashton Kutcher and Guy Oseary’s fund announced at SXSW), Axel Springer, Digital Garage, Kyle Bruck, Jared Kopf (Angel List Syndicate), and Queensbridge, as well as early investor Foundation Capital. These people believe deeply in Pocket, our team, and our future. We really couldn’t ask for a better set of partners to help us in realizing Pocket’s vision.

I also speak for myself and the entire Pocket team, when I say THANK YOU to all of you, our users, for your continued support. You are awesome. We are constantly energized and inspired by your feedback, tweets, reviews, and emails, and we cannot wait to hear what you think about the new Pocket for Web and everything else we have up our sleeves for you this year.

And without further ado, we’re excited to share with you an all-new Pocket web experience, available today.

An All-New Pocket Web Experience Designed to Fit Any Screen:

All-New Redesigned and Responsive Pocket for Web

We completely redesigned and rebuilt Pocket for Web to automatically scale and fit every screen size, so you can browse your Pocket comfortably everywhere from your smartphone’s browser to your large desktop monitor at home.

Here’s what else to expect in the new Pocket for Web:

A Total Redesign: Details Matter

Expanded Dark Mode

The first thing you’ll notice in the new Pocket for Web is that the interface has a fresh look that’s both smart and clean. We’ve enhanced and polished Article View with subtle touches, adding a progress bar and title at the top of the screen, providing immediate context if you stop reading and come back to finish the article another time.

We’ve also made a change many of you have requested and expanded dark mode across the entire Web app. If you like to read late at night or while on a red-eye flight, you’ll rejoice at this change.

A Faster, Better Experience

Finally, we’ve taken cues from Pocket’s native apps for iOS and Android to improve navigation within Pocket for Web. With a fixed menu always available at left, it’s now much, much faster to get to anything in your list: your Favorites, Tags, and Inbox are now just a single click or tap away.

Bulk Edit

And, if you’re looking to make sweeping changes to your list, we’ve made Bulk Edit more readily accessible as well, with a new icon in the top right corner of your screen. Click or tap it to quickly Archive, Delete, or Add Tags to multiple items in your list.

We’re thrilled that Pocket for Web is now responsive and available to anyone with a web-friendly device. This is just the first of many new additions to our platform we look forward to bringing to you in the coming months.

Stay tuned!
